How Parents can Encourage Kids to Focus on Reading

Are your kids less than enthusiastic about reading? Many kids are, unfortunately. But there are many methods parents can try to help their children to focus and learn to love to read. Reading is such an important part of education, and good reading skills can help in a variety of school subjects. Therefore, parents may want to try several of these suggestions in order to increase their children’s abilities to focus and becomestrong readers.

1.    Read to your child every day.  Kids of all ages enjoy spending one-on-one time with a parent while they read aloud. In order for the kids to focus, parents can let their kids choose reading material, as any type of reading can be beneficial. Some options (aside from books) include newspapers, comic books, and magazines.

2.    Model a love of reading.  Kids who see their parents reading are much more likely to focus and become readers themselves.

3.    Give your child a book allowance.  Keep this separate from whatever other allowance your child may receive. Allowing your children to choose their own books to purchase from this allowance can greatly influence their focus and interest in reading.

4.    Subscribe to magazines for your children.  There is a certain amount of excitement about getting a new issue of a magazine in the mail. Kids naturally want to read these magazines much of the time.

5.    Set up a place in your kids’ rooms for their books.  By keeping books in their own rooms, kids develop a sense of ownership over the books—and this can definitely boost their focus for reading time.

6.    Praise your child for time spent reading.  Reading anything counts as reading—so offer praise for time they spend reading webpages or comic books as well as for the time they spend reading books.

7.    Find books and materials that relate to your child’s hobbies or interests.  If your kids are soccer buffs, look for books that are about the sport in order for them to focus. If video games are an interest, consider purchasing game walk-through books. Any interest or hobby is certain to have reading material that your child could enjoy.

Don’t give up trying to encourage your children to focus on reading. A love of reading will serve them well in many aspects of life, so help them to become interested in reading however you can.

Letting them take brain boosting supplements can be at help too not only on focusing but it can also boost their attention, memory, concentration and brainpower.
