Achieving Focus amidst Distractions

How often have you been into a certain task but not able to focus on it since your mind is wandering around?  In spite of your intentions to work on it but you can’t manage to concentrate on it. We all have been into this kind of annoying situation which would really want to fix since our studies is already affected.

The alarm clock rings at 5 a.m., breakfast by 6 a.m.  Shower, dress, hurry to class by 7:30 a.m.  Hours upon hours of classes, hurrying from one building to another, making time to socialize, arrange study groups, eat lunch, visit with guidance counselors – the list goes on.  In the life of a full-time student, there is seldom time to breathe, much less plan one’s entire future.

Time management while in school is crucially important in order to focus and to have a successful school career amidst of all the distractions.  Part of attending secondary school is preparatory for college.  Mastering the issue of time management can prepare you for smooth transition to the University of your choice.  Here are a few time management tips to get them started in order to focus and concentratewith what we have to do.

Routine, Routine, Routine

The important of a routine cannot be stressed enough when it comes to student’s schedules and study habits.  The best place to start when setting a firm routine is bed time.  Getting to bed at the same time each night will help your student sleep better, get enough sleep and be more prepared for each day.  When the mind is well rested, the individual is more able to cope with the daily grind as well as any curveballs that might be thrown their way.

Setting a schedule and sticking to it creates a great work ethic, helps the student to accomplish everything they need to accomplish.  This, in turn, can build self-confidence and pride in a job well done.

Plan Ahead

Every teacher has a plan they prepare in advance of the school year.  If your student has a habit of procrastinating, it might be a good idea to talk with the teacher about the plans for the entire year.  Your student might feel as though they will have time to “make up” work later, when in fact, “later” already has plenty of work that needs to be completed.  Talking with your student and their teachers so they have a good grasp on what will be expected throughout the course of the school year in each of their classes is a great way to help them buckle down and complete tasks when it is appropriate instead of when they feel like it.
